Tunnel to Towers Project

tunnel to towers foundation

Colorado Springs Garage Floors was honored to participate in a Tunnel to Towers project this fall.  We want to share more about the project and this great foundation.  Also the project we were involved in.

Tunnel to Towers

tunnel to towersFor those of you not familiar with this organization, let me share with you how great it is and why our family is supporting it.

The foundation was formed after 9/11 to help American heroes by providing mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families with young children.  They build custom-designed smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders. They are also committed to eradicating veteran homelessness and aiding the victims of major U.S. disasters.  What a great cause to be invited to be involved in!

The Tunnel to Towers Colorado Springs Project

We were honored to be participating in a small part of providing the home that was built for U.S. Air Force, Retired, Israel “DT” Del Toro.  In December 2005, U.S. Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Israel Del Toro Jr.’s Humvee hit an IED in Afghanistan and the blast left him with severe burns on over 80% of his body.  He was given a 15% chance of survival.  He overcame those odds and now shares his story with audiences across the country.

SMSgt Del Toro’s new home was built by Gold Rush ConstructionGreg Wheatley and Kailey Wheatley.  The home has been modified to be completely accessible. It’s been made with automatic doors and wider hallways.  All the features of the home can also be controlled via an app or touch screens built into the home.  And our part was to install a beautiful garage floor.

Senior Master Sergeant Israel “DT” Del Toro

Our family was honored to participate in this project.  We of course provided the custom garage floor for the Del Toro home.  Our family worked together on this project and we are proud to have contributed.

Tunnel to Towers is a well-run foundation and we highly recommend supporting it

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation Mission

The mission of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation is to honor the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller (the brother of the founder, Frank Stiller) who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001.   They also honor our military and first responders who continue to make the supreme sacrifice of life and limb for our country.

The mission of building smart homes is to show our gratitude for the sacrifices and service of the U.S. Armed Services returning from war who have been catastrophically injured by building smart technology homes so they can regain their independence.
